Charles Perkins Satellite Soccer CoEs
Our base in south-west Sydney is the home of the Charles Perkins Soccer Academy as part of the Macarthur FC Centre of Excellence, but we plan to extend this through partnerships with other A-League clubs and football organisations nationally. We will collaborate with schools with significant populations of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples to establish Charles Perkins’ satellite centres of excellence.
The purpose of the centres of excellence is to identify and attract Indigenous young people in a culturally affirming environment.
Each satellite centre of excellence will include a designated Charles Perkins Soccer Academy room in each host school as a home-base for students involved in the Academy.
The students will receive weekly high-level football training sessions in line with the Macarthur FC/Charles Perkins Centre of Excellence curriculum, delivered by the same coach (or coaches) in respective locations to help build familiarity and a mentor-style relationship.
The participants will also have access to personal development and leadership learning opportunities, in addition to the school curriculum.
As part of their participation, they will also be encouraged to give back to their communities through a community activity – such as coaching a junior team, helping with Elders or tutoring young students.
